General Mural Info and Pricing

Mural costs vary based on the following factors

Quality of Materials used (spray paint, latex paint, clear coats, primers/sealers)

Equipment Needs (i.e. scaffolding, lift, masking materials, sprayers, etc.)

Complexity of design (i.e. amount of detail, number of colors, style, size, etc.)

Design Process (i.e. digital sketches, physical drawings, paint sampling, etc.)

Design for a mural begins after receiving a design deposit of $300. This design is generally communicated through a digital mock up of the mural on a photo of the wall, but if necessary physical sketches and paintings will be made to better communicate the style and feel of the design. This deposit covers the cost of up to 3 revisions to the initial design. Changes may be made beyond the initial three sketches, but an additional design cost of $50 per sketch may be requested. This deposit is non refundable but will be credited towards the cost of the overall painting after a design is decided upon.

Average mural costs range from $10-$40/ sq. ft. of the area being painted, with an $ 500 minimum.

The cost above includes the cost of insurance, materials, design, labor and equipment for the mural painting but does not include general repair and preparation of the wall (i.e.. cleaning, masonry work, priming, etc.) or clear coating of the wall to be painted. Unless otherwise requested, the paint used will be high commercial quality, exterior grade paint and may not require the added protection of a clear coat.

A materials deposit of half of the total cost of the mural is requested two weeks before painting begins in order to purchase supplies and reserve necessary equipment rentals.

Wall Preparation

Because the longevity of the mural is dependent on the security of the surface on which it’s painted, it is recommended that exterior walls be power washed one week prior to priming to ensure proper dry-time.

Masonry primer/sealer is recommended for brick or concrete walls that have not yet been painted. This service can be included in the painting bid for an additional $1/sq. ft. Optional clear coats and/or graffiti seals may also be included for an additional $2/sq. ft.

The cost for your particular project can better be determined after we’ve discussed the size and complexity of your design. As stated before, please don’t hesitate to send me any questions you may have. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to talking with you.

The Ingredients of your Custom Quote:

Mural prices are determined by several factors including wall area, level of detail, and travel distance:

  1. Wall Area is the length x width of an imaginary box drawn around the finished mural or mural sections, which usually differs from the raw size of the blank wall. Since our murals are designed with lots of open areas, we often subtract an estimated percentage of “space intentionally left blank,” from the mural price. This allowance makes painting an entire room much more affordable.

  2. Level of Detail: Each mural is unique, designed specifically for the shape of the wall and the needs of the client. Complexity ranges from a few basic shapes repeated throughout the mural, to a high level of freehand drawing. Most murals contain 5 or fewer paint colors, while other designs call for more color variety. Each mural is quoted on an individual basis after the first consultation with the client, but to give you an idea of cost, we’ve included the size, level of complexity and price for each mural in our portfolio.

  3. Design: We love creating designs from scratch, but many clients already have a clear vision for their mural. They have collected photos, examples and sketches, which reduces the amount of time it takes us to design and plan the mural. In these instances, a “design credit” may be applied to the quote.

  4. Distance: GalleryTArt is located in Royalton Illinios a surcharge may be applied due to distance.

  5. Other Factors: Some walls are more challenging than others! If the wall is more than one story high, a surcharge may be applied for ladder work. If the room has a lot of complex angles, carrying the design around those angles in a visually convincing way will take more time than painting a flat wall. Hand-lettering and murals on ceilings always incur a surcharge.
